Found Poem - The Island

(The music is quite subtle, but there.)

The Island
Found Poem taken from Lord of the Flies by William Golding
From Pages: 7, 10, 39, 47, 52, 53, 54, 62

The long scar smashed into the jungle;
a bath of heat
fledged with palm trees;
their green feathers hundred feet up in the air;
the open sea dark blue,
behind, the darkness of the forest proper.

Decline of the sun,
allowed a  little coolness to lie under the tree,
a drop of burning gold that slid nearer the sill of a world.

Only a few inches from the humid Earth,
the tree trunks and creepers festooned
There was only the faintest indication of the trail
that was widen enough and trodden enough to be a path,
hardened by an accustomed tread.
The forest opened a little,
beyond was the glitter of the sea.
In the hot air a pair of gaudy butterflies danced around
The sunlight had lifted clear of the open space and withdraw from the sky

  1. I thought that your voice really helped match the tone of the poem, which is still describing wonderful imagery, but has a lingering sadness to it. The poem had a nice harmony to the music. Well done.

  2. I enjoyed how easy it was to hear the poem over the sound of the music.

  3. I like how your second stanza is really short and abrupt, just like the darkness that will overcome the island during sunset. The poem contains many adjectives, which goes well with your other flowery languages.

  4. Great job on describing the island! You created a very lively imagery. I like how you describe the sunset as a drop of burning gold. It's a nice found poem you created.

  5. Much improved overall experience from an audience perspective from the first draft. The balance is better between the music as backdrop and the focus on the voice...much nicer. I liked it.
    Lovely imagery and expression was appropriate. Couldn't have gotten that from just having you submit a poem typed on a piece of paper or even on your blog.
